Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier is hoping to have Gabriel Agbonlahor available for the derby with Wolves this weekend.
Agbonlahor limped off with a calf injury during the Carling Cup tie against Blackburn on Wednesday night, but Houllier is hoping the 23-year-old forward will be fit for Sunday.
The Frenchman, whose Villa Park reign began in winning fashion, said: “The most reassuring thing he said was that it is the two calves that he felt at the same time.
“If it is one calf, you might think it is a possible tear but it is the two calves so probably it involves cramp or fatigue.
“Gabby said that he had that during the home Europa League game with Rapid Vienna and then could play the following game.”
Defender Ciaran Clark has emerged as a doubt for the game at the weekend after suffering a dead leg, but the young centre-back was expected to drop out of the starting XI anyway with James Collins returning for Villa.
