Kieran Gibbs out of Manchester United match

Football News Staff - 9 Dec 2010

Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs will miss next Monday’s clash with Manchester United, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

Gibbs sustained an ankle injury halfway through the first half of the Champions League win over Partizan Belgrade on Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old was forced to make an early exit after failing to run off the problem, and Gunners boss Wenger is now waiting to learn the extent of the injury with a hectic festive schedule on the horizon.

He said: “Kieran Gibbs has a twisted ankle, an ankle sprain. I don’t know how damaged his ankle is – he will have a scan (on Thursday).”

The Frenchman then allayed fears that the youngster had injured the same ankle that had kept him on the sidelines earlier in the season.

Wenger added: “No (it is not the same ankle), it is the right one. I spoke to him, he is quite down. He is on crutches. I cannot tell you more.

“We will know (Thursday), but he is already out for Monday night.”
