Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has vowed ‘not to sleep’ if it will help get him fit for Sunday’s Carling Cup final.
The Spaniard lasted just 14 minutes of Wednesday night’s 1-0 win over Stoke City, limping off with a hamstring injury following a challenge from Potters counterpart Dean Whitehead.
The Gunners also lost winger Theo Walcott later in the same match and while the 21-year-old England international will definitely miss the game against Birmingham City with a sprained ankle, Fabregas is refusing to give up on his dream of leading the team out at Wembley Stadium as Arsenal bid to end a near six-year wait to get their hands on silverware.
Fabregas wrote on Twitter: “I don’t know if I'll make Sunday or not, but all I know is that from this moment to Sunday I won't sleep if it's necessary.
“I've waited too long to captain a final for Arsenal and I won't give up till the last second.”
